Chris Britton, the founder and current Managing Director of the Company, established CBC in 1990, with the vision of blending practical Highway and Pavement Engineering knowledge with insight and experience in designing and implementing Information Systems. The consultancy has gone from strength to strength, based on extensive national, local and international experience, but its essential core values have remained largely unchanged.  CBC specialises in providing holistic solutions for Highway and Pavement Maintenance and Asset Management.

At the start of 2007, CBC employed 19 staff and had a turnover of around £1.8 million. In July 2007, the company announced the successful completion of an acquisition by Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services, the highway maintenance and operations service provider based in Basingstoke, Hampshire. CBC's Head Office remains in Guildford, Surrey, and we also have a base in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. CBC will continue to trade as a separate entity and retain its independence when giving advice to third party clients.

Our expertise is based on a unique blend of Highway and Pavement Engineering knowledge with Management and IT systems consultancy skills. We are equally at home, for example, carrying out business systems analysis as we are providing feasible design options on a major motorway rehabilitation scheme. Our involvement with projects at a national and international level gives clients the reassurance that our advice is indeed state-of-the art. Our trainers are attuned to the needs of an engineering audience and can provide courses and seminars tailored to your needs. Our Engineers have a high level of IT knowledge and we have advised many clients on the specification and implementation of information systems to improve the efficiency of their business. We do not act as an agent for particular software or hardware suppliers, thus maintaining the independence of view expected of us by our clients.

In recent years, we have been at the forefront of developing Asset Management principles and practice in the highways sector. We have been responsible for facilitating and drafting several national and international standards and best practice guides in this arena, and have also been successful in ground-breaking long-term contracts for road maintenance and management using Private Finance.

As an Investor in People, CBC values its staff as the lifeblood that builds our reputation with our clients. The relationships that our consultants build up with clients are a key factor in delivering the right service, in a timely and efficient way to meet client's needs. Our Quality Management Systems are developing all the time, based on the experience gained on live projects.
