Our team and case studies

Chris Britton Consultancy has a team of qualified and experienced sustainability specialists who have worked in the highways and other industry sectors. Recent examples of our experience in the highways sector are:

• M25 DBFO Integrated asset management and highway maintenance consultancy: we have developed and applied practical sustainability objectives (notably climate change impacts) into the Asset Management System and into routine maintenance regimes for the M25 DBFO. This included: evaluating and developing asset and maintenance sustainability objectives and a Sustainability Protocol to assess and quantify climate change in the pavement asset valuation process.
• Local Authority Carbon Auditing: we have undertaken Carbon Audits that have assessed the carbon intensity of highway construction, maintenance operations and other activities of highways departments. As well as identifying opportunities for reducing the amount of CO2 emissions generated, our Carbon Audit service enables local authorities and other organisations to report their performance against National Indicators (NIs) 185 & 186, as well as measure and meet their energy and carbon reduction obligations under the Carbon Reduction Commitment.
• Highways Agency Study: Embedding Sustainability into HA Network Management and Operations: we carried out a study into international best practice in the development and management of sustainability as it applies to road network operations and highway asset management. We identified a number of opportunities for the HA to develop and embed systems and procedures in partnership with its managing agents, contractors and DBFO companies. The recommendations enabled the HA to meet its operational priorities whilst enhancing the contribution it can make towards the achievement of sustainable development and to implement actions in support of its sustainability intentions as outlined in the Agency’s Strategic and annual Business Plans, and Sustainable Development Action Plan.

Our sustainability experience comes from working for a range of local and national clients, both in the public and private sectors. Our team approach enables us to transfer knowledge between projects and allows us to bring a national perspective to local issues where appropriate.

Chris Britton Consultancy is a wholly owned subsidiary of Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering and has provided specialist sustainability and environmental services since 2009. Our experience has developed from supporting Balfour Beatty contracts to offering shared best practice and a full range of sustainability and environmental services to local and national clients, both in the public and private sectors.
